Cybercriminals Disseminate Stolen Sepa Data Information stolen from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) as part of a “complex” digital attack has been misappropriated and posted online.
In the Christmas Eve ransomware attack, approximately 1.2 GB of data, or 4000 records, were stolen.
The environmental controller confirmed that information gathered by what were likely to be global genuine and coordinated digital criminal groups has now been illegally distributed online.
The organization stated that the need administrative, observing, flood determining, and cautioning administrations were adapting and working.
The CEO of ADVERT Sepa, Terry A’Hearn, stated:We have made it clear that we will not use public funds to pay legitimate and organized criminals with the goal of displacing public administrations and extorting public resources.
“We are affirming, in accordance with Police Scotland guidance, that the information taken has been improperly distributed on the internet. We have made our legitimate commitments and obligation of care on the delicate treatment of information a high need.
“As recognizable pieces of evidence are affirmed, contact and support influenced associations and people,” the statement reads. “We’re working rapidly with multi-office accomplices to recover and break down information at that point.”
Sepa cannot access the vast majority of its frameworks, including its email framework, due to the attack.
